Why Choose a Sailfish Center Console? Exploring the Benefits and Features

Posted:26/08/2024 12:00AM

For Dale Rubino and his family, owning a Sailfish 220 Center Console is more than just having a boat; it’s about realizing a lifelong dream and creating cherished family experiences. It’s about safety, versatility, and trust—both in the Sailfish brand and in the community at MarineMax.

Based in Brick, New Jersey, Dale’s boating journey is not just a personal achievement but a shared experience with his wife’s parents,  Bob and Leslie Schreiberwho co-own the boat with them.

Dale’s love for boating began early, growing up with a father who owned several boats. While Dale’s father eventually transitioned to a Grady White walk-around, Dale always had his eye on Sailfish. "When I was a kid, there was a yellow Sailfish in our marina. I always told myself, ‘Once I get older, I’m definitely going to buy a Sailfish.’ And here I am," Dale smiles.

When Dale and his wife, both professionals—he, a school principal, and she, a nurse practitioner—decided to take the plunge, they did their homework. They considered other popular brands such as Scout, Cobia, Robalo, or Key West, but something always brought them back to Sailfish. “We looked at other boats, but none of them had what Sailfish offered. The features that come standard with a Sailfish would be considered upgrades on other boats,” Dale explains.

Safety and versatility were at the forefront of the Rubino family’s decision. With two young boys, ages seven and twelve, safety was non-negotiable. “We looked at the Scout, but it just felt too low. I didn’t want to worry about the kids falling overboard. The Sailfish felt much more secure with its high gunnels and deep cockpit,” says Dale.

But safety was only one piece of the puzzle. The 220 Center Console’s clever use of space and versatility was what ultimately won the Rubinos over. “The boat is so well designed. There’s a ton of storage, and everything has its place. Whether we’re fishing, tubing, or just hanging out at Treasure Island, the boat adapts to whatever we want to do,” Dale notes.

The durability and hull design of the Sailfish also left a lasting impression. Dale shares a pivotal moment during their second sea trial when they encountered rough waters near the inlet. “A huge wave came our way, and I was worried. But the Sailfish cut right through it without a hitch. My family stayed dry, and I knew then we had made the right choice,” Dale recalls.

Another significant factor in the Rubino family’s decision was the relationship they built with their dealership, MarineMax, in Brick, New Jersey. Dale cannot speak highly enough of the team there, especially their sales representative, David Melo. “David and his team were amazing. They laid everything out for us, from costs to maintenance, making sure we were comfortable with our decision. Even after the sale, they’ve been there for us, answering questions and providing support,” Dale says.

Boating adventures await; With their 220 CC docked just minutes from their home, the Rubino family is ready to make the most of the remaining summer weeks. From fishing trips for fluke, striped bass, and bluefish, to leisurely days exploring Treasure Island or tubing on the river, they’re all set for adventure. Dale is particularly excited about the boat’s versatility, whether it’s for a day of serious fishing or a relaxing family outing.

As they navigate the local waterways of the Manasquan River, Manasquan Inlet, and beyond, the Rubino family is eager to create lasting memories on their new Sailfish. And with MarineMax’s community events, like group trips down to Atlantic City, they’re already looking forward to next season’s adventures.

As Dale puts it, “We’re very lucky. I can’t thank my in-laws enough for helping make this dream a reality.” And with many more seasons ahead, the Rubino family’s journey with Sailfish has only just begun.
